Thank you for being here summer!

So at the request of a Facebook wall post and just because I haven’t blog in a while, here is a catch up on the random things going on in the Admissions House this summer…so far.

First though, thank you for showing up summer. It wasn’t that I didn’t mind the cooler temperatures; it was just the fact that there was no sun. I like sun–not clouds.

We have been “going green” (which pains me to say, btw) and haven’t turned the lights on in the office for a week. Of course, this is somewhat pointless because it is balmy 65 degrees in here, so the A/C definitely is using up all that energy that we are “saving.”

A nice thing that I joined into is the music days in the office. Josh and Jordan had a music genre for each day of the week, and we’ve just added to it. Monday is still up in the air for a title, but the rest of the week is as follows: Techno Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday (just ridiculously good music), Thermophilic Thursday (still trying to define this exactly) and Funky Friday. Yes, the music world will never be the same. Also, thank you Groove Shark.

Another topic that came up was the amount of poor umpiring that is occurring during this season. After Armando Galarraga’s perfect game was ruined with a blown call, Joe West deciding he’s the center of universe during baseball games, and the three other blown calls last night that decided the game in one case, something has to change. Let’s get the instant replay in for the close calls at the bases. Only the purest of the game would disagree.

I just want to let everyone know that the Brewers finally won a game that I attended. I was starting to get a little concerned, but things finally got straighten out. It’s a good thing because I have two more games this month and I’m sure there will be a few more coming up.

So, something work related…I’m enjoying the summer position here in the Admissions House and getting everything ready for the PAC-ers next year. We are looking forward to having a full staff and training and all that jazz. We even put together a new calling rewards system, so motivation will be at an all time high!

Until next time, “you stay classy.”

Farewell for the summer

Alright, so my boss Lindsay demanded that I blog one, last time… for her. So you got it, kiddo. This one is on the house. It’s been a long year no doubt, but it has also flown by faster than I can even realize. I have made so many great friends here at WLC that are all fantastic people.

Coming into freshman year, I did not really know anybody, I was nervous, and scared that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the challenges of college. However, all my fears were quelled after the first few months. My roommates were awesome, the people I met at PAC were really accommodating, and the homework certainly was a challenge but also most definitely bearable, almost enjoyable at times.

You may have noticed by now this isn’t my typical, lighthearted blog where I make obscure internet references and cheap jokes, but I guess that is because this moment is kind of bitter sweet. The senior class is moving out, and there are so many I met that it makes me quite melancholy that they are going out into the “real world” (no not that one, the real, real world). However, whether they have jobs lined up and ready to go out in this harsh economy or not, I am certain that WLC has given them an amazing 4 years, and that they are prepared for anything that this world can throw at them. So congratulations to all of you, especially to my bosses, Ashley and Lindsay, best of luck to you in your endeavors.

Hmm… well this was quite a heavy blog. Here ya go! (<— click that hotlink). It wouldn’t be a blog unless I had one of those!

Have a great summer everyone, and excuse me while I wipe the tear drops off my keyboard ;) haha!

Wrap It Up!

This week is one that is almost over, and I’m NOT upset about it one bit. Between getting portfolios done, presentation presented (a bit redundant), and finals earlier than scheduled (okay, so one out of three ain’t bad?), I’m pretty much sick of this week. I mean, I’ll have to study this weekend, but at least all the course work will be done. I’m pretty excited about the end of the semester now, however. The two presentations I had today went really well and we got ice cream cake at the end of one.

That being said, finals always seem to stress half of the campus out. The other half, well, either they are used to it or are confident in their grade. A couple of my classes, I have solidified my grade pretty much, which gives you a nice sense of relief going into that final. Also, my jury piece for my vocal lesson is coming together nicely, mostly because I have an accompanist that can play it well.

Now, for the final Wisconsin Lutheran College Sports Update of the year. The softball team finished up its season with a 2-2 split this weekend when they were action. They ended up sweeping Maranatha, 9-0 and 8-0. Katie Timm ended up pitching a perfect game in the second game of the doubleheader! The baseball team had a slugfest in its doubleheader with Marian the past weekend. The two teams combined for 28 and 43 runs in the two games they split. They have two games remaining against Maranatha this weekend. The men’s tennis team picked up a victory over Rockford this weekend and has the NAC Championship this weekend. The men’s and women’s track & field teams are in action this weekend with the NAC Outdoor Championships being held and Raabe Stadium.

Finally, as this will be my final blog for this school year, I would like to send out a big shout out to the two senior team leaders, Ashley and Lindsay. Now, I know Lindsay is going to be upset with me because she probably going to start crying or something like that, but considering they have been in the leadership position for the two years I have worked in the PAC office–things are definitely going to be different next year. We will be having a record freshmen class coming in next year, and the calling was definitely part of the recruiting process. You will be missed next year.

Well, that will do it for the regular school year blogs. I will be working over the summer, so I’ll try to drop a blog here and there just to let you know what is up in the MKE area and WLC campus. Even though I know most high schools have about a month left,–have a good summer and rest of the school year!

Until next time, “you stay classy.”

In This Blog: Whiffle Ball, Lotteries, and Obscure Pokemon References!

Hello and welcome!

As mentioned, my brainstorming sessions for my blogs are getting pretty desperate and my ideas and constantly changing and evolving, kind of like bulbasaur if you know what I mean (and I believe you do). So I was going to a parody of the TV show 24, but then I realized I have never seen the show, nor am I like Jack Bauer in any way.

However, one thing I can talk about is whiffle ball. Here at WLC, we have a courtyard that is basically the Miller Park of whiffle ball. We have some pretty heated pick up games that more frequently end with tears instead of handshakes; we take it pretty seriously. It is always a fun time though, and we jack more home runs than a roided up Barry Bonds. (And if you want updates about actually baseball, check out Mike’s blog).

As promised, I would update you on how the housing lottery turned out. My roommates and myself chose to live in the apartments, and we could not be more happy about where we ended up. We have a deck, and that just about says it all. It’s going to be awesome.

Unfortunately, I think that is about it for this week, but check back next week because I have a good idea in the works.

Have a great week!

Brewers Blowing It and “Feer the Dear”

So I could write about how depressing it is with the amount of project we have or the fact that the seniors are leaving (not saying that we are going to miss them, but no one really wants to talk about it, right Lindsay?), but rather I will start out with the Brewers.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!

I went to the baseball game on a “double date +1″ yesterday because we didn’t have regular class with Assessment Day. After the 4 1/2 hours-plus, 14 inning marathon, I’m depressed to be a Brewers fan right now. Trevor Hoffman is blowing saves like fireworks on the 4th of July, pitching, in general, is not up to par and the Brewers went 1-5 in the 6 game home stand against the Cubs and Pirates. A college student does not need more stress at this time of the year! Needless to say, I did have a good time and 2 of the last 3 Brewers games I have gone to have gone into extra innings (the other being a 8-6 lost in 13), which I don’t think too many people can say.

Another thing that is coming up for the PAC office is the end of the year party on Monday. We will be indulging in delicious Qdoba, which if you haven’t had it, you are missing out. We usually have some unusual awards and shenanigans, so it is always a good time.

Tomorrow is the Spring Choir Concert, which I heard through the grapevine is sold out. The reason I’m super excited about this is because we are singing movements out of Carmina Burana. The first movement, O Fortuna, has been featured in countless movies and Gatorade commercials, so I think the choir is pumped for it. If you click on the link, I’m sure you’ll be familiar with what I’m talking about.

Now we’ll move on to the Wisconsin Lutheran College Sports Corner Update. The softball team went 3-3 in the last week, with a sweep of Findlandia on April 22. The Warriors are in action again 4 times this weekend. The baseball team was able to pick up a split against Madison Edgewood when it won the first game of the doubleheader, 2-0. Like the softball team, the baseball team will also be in action 4 times this weekend. The men’s and women’s track & field teams were in action at UW-Whitewater last weekend. The men’s golf team finishes up their short spring season this weekend and men’s tennis is in action with 3 meets this weekend as well.

Anyways, I hope everyone enjoys their last few days of April and watches the Bucks and their playoff push as the Hawks “Fear the Deer.” John Salmons and Brandon Jennings are really exciting to watch and really feed off of each other’s play.

Until next time, “you stay classy.”

Good Ideas Are Tough To Come By

I guess it is just a writer’s block type of week because I, like Mike, am having troubles cranking out a blog (which is why I have been putting it off until the last passing moments of my week). When most TV shows get desperate for material, they resort to what is called the clip show (The Simpsons, The Office). It is where they take snippets of past shows, throw all of them against a wall, see which ones stick, and use them to make a “new” episode. Seeing as I am in the same predicament, I considered finding all the bacon, sneezing pandas, and bunnies with pancakes on their dome I could possibly find on the Internet and calling it a “new” blog. However, as soon as I started, I felt guilty that I could not think of anything better too (Another problem was that pandas sneezing and rodents covered in delicious breakfast foodsaren’t actually all that common, even on the Internet).

Well, the end of the year is coming quickly and it is going to be really sad, like more hugs than a re-run of Full House sad, seeing this class of seniors move on to bigger and better things. However, it is also exhilarating knowing that summer is right around the corner. This time of year is also exciting because of the housing lottery, which is like the real lottery, but without all the ping pong balls … Wait, no, we actually have those too. Anyway, it determines where and with whom people are going to live  for the upcoming year. Things are getting pretty hectic as the date quickly approaches, but it is also a lot of fun.

I will be sure to let all of you know how it turns out next.

Besides that, I hope you all enjoy the beautiful spring weather and the final projects that come with the end of the semester.

Writer’s Block–Fall back: NFL Draft

I’m having some serious writer’s block right now. The creative juices are not flowing. Usually coming into blog, I at least have a general idea of what I’m going to do, but right now, I don’t.

That being said, I’m going to the Wisconsin Lutheran College Sports Update, and hopefully something will come to me in the next few minutes. The softball team was 2-4 since the last time blogging–pick up wins against MSOE and Alverno. They split those two doubleheaders, and they are in action 6 times in the next week. The baseball team was able to take a split with Division II UW-Parkside on Monday. They are in action 5 times in the next week. The men’s and women’s track & field teams were in action on Saturday and they both placed 4th (and 4th, to get another link in…) at their home track meet. The men’s golf and tennis teams both are in action coming up, so we’ll see how they do next week.

Something came to me while blogging about the sports–the NFL Draft is tonight; the first time it has ever been in prime time. Now, I know this is not WLC related, but considering how much students love the Packers (and some Brett Favre, not me, but that’s a whole other topic), there are some interesting story lines. First, do the Packers stick to their traditional ways and stay where they are in the draft, or will they try to move up and select a safety or offensive tackle, as some analysis predict? Personally, I think they will stay put or even trade down from the 23rd overall selection. Second, Brett Favre related, how will the Vikings draft, considering they didn’t have any picks last year? Will they select a QB to help out in the future? Personally, I don’t really care what they do. Go Packers!

Also, I finally can actually plan out the rest of my year. I have one test and three presentations and one concert (Spring Concert on April 30 for the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir) until Finals. Needless to say, I still have some work to do. Fortunately, that is pretty much all I have to work on. There really isn’t any day-to-day work left, so all of my time and energy is on those four things, which is really nice.

Update: Alyssa still hasn’t blogged. She only has 3 weeks left. My bet– it isn’t happening.

Until next time, “you stay classy.”

An Evening Searching

Last night, at approximately 10:00 PM CST (that’s 11:00 PM for all you on the east coast), a meteor was hurdling relentlessly toward earth at about a zillion miles per hour, with an big ball of fuego trailing it. My roomates and myself, being thrill-seeking adventurers on par with Evel Knievel and Christopher Columbus, decided that the proper way to deal with a space rock plummeting into our atmosphere was to get out of bed at 12:15 AM and go and find it. Some people may call us awesome, others still crazy, but one thing was for certain, we would risk life and limb to find this meteor. After driving around for a half hour, still buzzing with hopeless optimism as we approached where we determined the rock inevitably fell, my roomates and I searched relentlessly but could not find it, so we drew the only logical conclusion we could in that circumstance: the government already found it and hid it. Defeated, we did the only thing duped meteor hunters could do - went to Taco Bell.

The time I spent not pursuing falling space objects this week were mostly allocated writing a ten page final paper for my English class and picking out classes for next semester. This is one of my favorite times of the year because there are so many options for classes, it makes me excited for the ensuing year. I’m going to enroll in two business class, two communications classes, and a theology class.

On a side note, Alyssa (A-lish-a) demanded an apology for my blog from last week… which I promise she will receive as soon as she writes a blog :) .

Thanks for reading!

Reality of Next Year–College Class Registration

I figured out today that I need a haircut soon. I thought I didn’t need one over Easter Break, but then I realized that EVERYONE (not quite, but it just seems that way) got one over break and I was the only one that didn’t. Now with this warm weather and blustery wind, my hair is standing up. That almost never happens for me. It’s also not a good sign when you walk into a classroom and the vent is blowing out warm air that makes your hair stand up. Andy, I thought you would appreciate this since you just got your hair cut. I digress…

Fall registration for the 2010-2011 school year is occurring this week. I’m registered for 4 business classes and a theology class. It’s also that time to declare for being a business major, so that will be on the agenda for later this month. I’m still confused on if I want to do the management/marketing track or the finance track, but I’m sure that will come clearer after this fall semester of classes. I’m pretty excited for the next semester with Human Resources Management (350), Consumer Behavior (347), Intermediate Investments (322), Business Law (303), Life of Christ, Choir and Private Voice Lessons. I have another 17 credits this upcoming semester, but the 3 after that should be one less class–probably somewhere around 14 credits. One of the classes I wanted to take wasn’t offered, but hopefully I’ll be able to take it down the line.

As promised, here is the Wisconsin Lutheran College Sports Corner Update! The softball team picked up its first win in the conference against Rockford, 11-3. The Warriors narrowly lost the first game of the doubleheader, 10-9. The baseball team has had an up and down season so far, but was able to sweep North Central University, with the second game of the doubleheader being a shut out, 7-0.  Both teams have four games this weekend, so there is a lot of opportunity to pick up some Ws. The men’s and women’s track & field teams hosted a meet at Raabe Stadium on April 10 and the women’s team finished 3rd at the meet. Both teams are back in action this weekend at Raabe Stadium again in the Warrior Relays. The men’s golf team also kicked off its spring season last weekend.

Just one last comment on Andy’s blog. I’m very disappointed in Alyssa (pronounced A-lish-a, as Andy said). We did some work to get her the opportunity to blog, and she has not take advantage of this. Therefore, Alyssa, you have been called out twice :-).

Until next time, “you stay classy.”

PAC bloggers +1?

Hello and welcome,

To everyone who eagerly anticipates my blog every Wednesday (you know who you are), sorry for the delay but in my head it is Wednesday right now because it is only the third school day of the week after returning from Easter break.

I typically will seize this opportunity to tell the best something: the best food (bacon), or the best animal (bears), the best blogger (Mike). However, for a change of pace, I’m going to tell you about my best friend. Her name is Alyssa (it’s pronounced Al-ish-a, and don’t ask me why), and she is a pretty cool person whom I work with in the PAC office. But “Andy,” you say, “Alyssa isn’t really your bff! You’re just mentioning her in your blog because she too is supposed to be writing a blog of her own for PAC!” And regretfully, I must inform you, my dear reader, that you are absolutely correct. Up until this point, she has been dodging the task, but I would really enjoy reading another entertaining article by someone who can rise among the illustrious (I used that word in two consecutive blogs, impressive!) PAC blogging ranks to join Mike and myself. Therefore Alyssa, you now have no choice but to indulge in the phenomenon that is blogging! I, as well as everyone else, will now be anxiously awaiting your first post.

Good. Now with that issue settled, it is time to blog about things that are more school related. As previously mentioned, WLC just returned from a six-day Easter vacation. This may not seem like a huge deal, but it was actually really nice because most other schools had no break at all over the Easter holiday. Therefore, we were pretty fortunate to have the extra few days for a little more rest and relaxation/going to Colorado ;) .

Beyond that, I hope everyone enjoys their last month of school or so!

Andy
