Coming up…

Several special events are coming up at Wisconsin Lutheran College. We hope to see you on campus!

The college will celebrate Founders’ Day on January 29. We’re serving up cake and photo displays in the Warrior Underground between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Also on Friday, the Door Stop Campus Shop holds its grand opening in the space formerly occupied by the bookstore.

Winterfest is Saturday, January 30, featuring a basketball doubleheader versus Lakeland College. The women’s tip-off is at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s at 3:15 p.m. The first 500 fans at the women’s game will receive a free Once A Warrior, Always A Warrior long-sleeved T-shirt. Then cheer on a high-flying dunk show by the Milwaukee Bucks Rim Rockers, including WLC alumnus Josh Schedler ‘06, during halftime of the men’s contest.

Next week, make plans to attend an open house of the new Nursing Lab on February 3.

Finally, at 6 p.m. on February 5 you are invited to the opening reception for the alumni art exhibition in the Schlueter Art Gallery.

Wisconsin Lutheran College was a destination for many people tonight who were attending a diverse group of events.


Students, parents, and community members turned out for the opening of Studio 8800, a juried student exhibition in the Schlueter Art Gallery.


Studio 8800 is free and open to the public through January 21, 2010.


Members of the Ella Post Society gathered in the Campus Center for dinner. President Daniel Johnson was on hand to greet these friends of the college. Ella Post members then attended a concert by Boni Pueri, the Czech Boys’ Choir, in the Center for Arts and Performance.


Meanwhile, in the Recreation Complex, the women’s basketball team made its season debut playing Northland in the Dunn’s Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament.


The tournament continues Saturday with the Warriors playing Ripon College at 1 p.m., followed by UW-Platteville taking on Northland at 3 p.m.

The calendar has turned to October and that means leaves turning colors and time for some FOOTBALL! Wisconsin Lutheran College celebrated its annual Homecoming week September 28-October 3.

Campus-wide events included a mind-blowing show from mentalist Christopher Carter at the Pep Rally Monday night.

Saturday finally arrived as the alumni football game started the day at Raabe Stadium.

Students at Wisconsin Lutheran College made it through their first week of classes before starting a three-day weekend.

Roger Fleming Memorial Warrior Golf Invitational

The 23rd annual Wisconsin Lutheran College Roger Fleming Memorial Warrior Golf Invitational welcomed 96 participants to Bristlecone Pines Golf Club in Hartland, Wis., on Monday, July 27. View the golf outing photo gallery.

The team of Gary Drska, Mike Drska, Josh Fischer and Chuck Wierschem combined to shoot a score of 58 to win the outing by one stroke. Dennis Miller, Ben Murphy, Scott Severson and Adam Volbrecht were right behind them with a 59.

This was the first year the outing was in honor of former WLC head men’s golf coach Roger Fleming, the first full-time faculty member called to Wisconsin Lutheran College in 1977. Fleming coached the men’s golf team for 30 seasons before being called to his eternal home on October 2, 2008. Proceeds from the Wisconsin Lutheran College Roger Fleming Memorial Warrior Golf Invitational benefit WLC scholarships and athletics. Mark your calendars for the 24th annual event which will again be held at Bristlecone Pines on Monday, July 26, 2010.

Wisconsin Lutheran College earned third place in the nation for the production of its 2008-09 men’s and women’s basketball media guide, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Judges critique award criteria in areas of graphics and design, editorial, team information, last season, general information, program history and conference information. Sports Information Director Adam Heinzen along with Eva McGillivray and Sarah Koch of Public Affairs assisted in production of the award-winning media guide, which was themed “Revved Up” and had cover photos taken at the Harley-Davidson Museum in downtown Milwaukee.

In just its second year participating in the contest, Wisconsin Lutheran placed third out of 23 multi-sport media guide entries in Division C. Awards are handed out to the top four schools who design the best multi-sport media guide. WLC’s basketball media guide placed fourth out of 21 entries in the same contest a year ago.

Over 230 participants enjoyed ideal weather conditions at the 6th Annual Gary’s Gallop on Saturday, April 18. Gary’s Gallop is a tribute to the late Wisconsin Lutheran College president, Dr. Gary Greenfield. It is a scenic 5k course through the WLC Outdoor Athletic Complex and Underwood Parkway, which attracted runners and walkers from age 7 through 76.

A family event, many participants also brought their young children to participate in the Kids’ Race which was one lap around the Raabe Stadium track. Current WLC President Dr. Daniel Johnson awarded the kids with their ribbons at the finish line. 

Gary’s Gallop serves as a fundraiser for Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors Athletics through proceeds from entry fees and the support of sponsors.

The Wisconsin Lutheran College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a free tailgate at today’s baseball and softball home doubleheaders. The SAAC is made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. George Webb’s sponsored the event and provided the burgers.

Winterfest 2009 at Wisconsin Lutheran College was a huge success as the Warriors men’s and women’s basketball teams defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader. The teams weren’t the only ones getting into the action. Fans enjoyed a high-flying dunk show by the Milwaukee Bucks Rim Rockers, including WLC alums Josh Schedler ’06 and Chris Walls ’05, while Bango, the Bucks mascot, entertained the crowd.

1000-Point Club

Three Wisconsin Lutheran College basketball players recently joined the 1,000-Point Club this season. Seniors Kristen Dillon (November 29), Danny Behm (January 12) and Britany Lindert (January 13) are now among the 11 women and 16 men in WLC basketball  history to achieve this feat.

Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Recreation Complex is the host for this weekend’s WIAA Boys Volleyball State Tournament. The REX has been transformed into two Sport Court floors for the tournament’s seven matches. Congratulations to the eight teams which have qualified for State: Middleton, Wauwatosa East, Kaukauna, Marquette, Kettle Moraine, New Berlin Eisenhower/West, Nicolet and Racine Horlick.

Go Green: Homecoming 2008

It’s homecoming week on the Wisconsin Lutheran College campus, and this year’s theme is “Go Green.”  This afternoon faculty, staff and students gathered on the “green,” the green Quad that is, for a corn roast, games and activities.

About 250 ears of corn were cooked and consumed, and “Go Green” T-shirts flew off the tables. Don’t forget to wear those shirts on Saturday, September 20, as the Warriors take on St. Scholastica at 1 p.m. at Raabe Stadium.

Warriors 360, a live weekly on-campus webcast, launched on today. The show, which begins at noon every Friday, features coaches, student-athletes and all things Warriors.

Warriors 360 is hosted by the voice of the Warriors, Scott Warras, and Sports Information Director, Adam Heinzen. Today’s show featured head football coach Dennis Miller and Warrior Club director Lisa Leffel.

Great weather teamed with 101 friends of the college turned into a successful 22nd annual Warrior Golf Invitational on July 28 at Bristlecone Pines Golf Club in Hartland.

Concluding his whirlwind week of campus meetings and house-hunting, new Wisconsin Lutheran College President Dan Johnson created new relationships while showing off his golf game, including this birdie putt. 

Proceeds from the event will be directed to the Wisconsin Lutheran Warrior booster club and first generation scholarship fund.
